Can I sell my beauty products?

18 Nov

For a while now I have been making my own beauty products. creams, shower gels etc. The bases I use to make up my own products are all soil association approved. so therefor are sls free paraben free etc. I mix in carrier oils and essential oils at very low dilutions. lower than normal ie 3-5 drops to 50ml base where I could add up to 15 drops. Ive read lots of books on aromatherapy and completed an evening class. so would I be allowed to sell them online ebay. Or at car boot sales etc.

I don’t know about the legalities of selling these products, but you would be very unwise to sell without having liability insurance and I don’t know how high a risk an insurer would consider this venture.

You cant. Your recipes have to be certified and there is a long list of regulations about ingredients, labelling and safe production.
Do some research on certification or check it with your local trading standards office. They have information about what you need to do/be to be allowed to sell cosmetics.
Its not cheap to get your recipes certified. I have seen prices from between £50 to £150 depending on the complexity of the recipe.
Check out the below link, it has some info and links to the official legislation.

No. there are laws on Cosmetics and food. You need to get a business license and operate it as a business. You need a DIN number too. It is expensive. You also need a testing lab. Also a trademark lawyer. The skin business is not a good business.
